Hotel Information: Moody Gardens Hotel & Convention Center 7 Hope Blvd. Galveston, TX 77554 Room Rate: $149.00/night up to quad occupancy in double bed rooms. Booking Window: 02/17/2020-04/05/2020 (All rooms booked outside of this window will not receive the $149.00 rate) In order to keep this event affordable and exciting competitors and advisors are required to book rooms at the event location. All competitors who fail to book rooms at the Moody Gardens Hotel & Convention Center will be disqualified from their competitive events. The only exception will be for schools whose mailing addresses are within 100 miles of the convention center and plan to drive to the location each day.
Hotel Block will be available Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday(limited number of rooms)
Group attractions pass: $48.00 / person. Chapters who choose to purchase this pass will have access to each of the following Moody Gardens attractions for the duration of their stay during normal business hours. Attractions include, Aquarium Pyramid, Rain forest Pyramid, 3D/4D theater, Paddle wheel Boat, and Discovery Pyramid. (You must select this option during competition registration and submit payment directly to TPSA. The group rate will only be available if 50 individuals from the entire TPSA organization purchase the pass. Refunds will be given only if the 50 person minimum is not reached).
Meals: Information regarding TPSA provided meals will be released within the coming weeks.
Registration Dates: Registration will open March 07, 2020 and remain open until March 31, 2020. Schools who fail to register by this deadline will be dropped from the state competition roster and the next team in line will be bumped up to fill the vacancy.
Volunteer Requirement: Chapter Surcharge: Each chapter will be required to bring the required number (based on chapter membership) of volunteers (non-competitors/adults) to state competition. Failure to register the required number of volunteers will result in a surcharge being applied to the chapters invoice. The volunteer scale is as follows. Volunteers will be assigned a position based on need and qualifications.
All registration fees including volunteer surcharges must be received by 04/09/2020. Chapters who fail to remit payment by the deadline will be dropped from the state competition roster and the next team in line will be bumped up to fill the vacancy. Extended deadlines will be granted for replacement teams.
No more than 50% of any team may be substituted for State Competition. The substitutes must have attended and competed at regional competition (not in the same event). If your team competed one man down at regional competition they may add someone back to the team, however that person must have competed at regional competition in an event. If your team competed one man down at regionals and the missing competitor is now able to compete as part of the team, no changes are needed. The competitor will automatically be loaded in to the State registration system. Adding a substitute to the team will county towards the 50% substitution rule. Only emergency substitution requests will be considered after the close of registration.
